releases in 2004. The recording of this incredible debut

was accomplished through their work with acclaimed

PURA FE’

ALBUM: “Follow Your Heart’s Desire”

Pura Fe's voice soars the heavens, elegantly

stating her Indigenous influence on the birth

of the Blues. This beautiful album is complete

with songs of love, history and anthems for her

Tuscarora Indian Nation of North Carolina.

Pura Fe´states that her music helps illustrate

the musical contributions made by Southeastern

Indigenous people in general. (Quoting)

"My Nation has been systematically disenfranchised

and disregarded. Many people think we have nothing

to do with the development of Southern culture.

Not only were we captured and shipped off as slaves

to West Africa and the

Caribbean

, we were bred

together on slave plantations during colonization of

our land. African and Indian slaves were harbored,

escorted and smuggled across the Canadian border

through Indian country.

Many of these grandchildren became influential

musicians. Charley Patton the first King of the

Blues is Choctaw, Scrapper Blackwell is Cherokee.

Other artists of native decent are:  Jimi Hendrix,

Don Cherry, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk,

Lina Horne, Little Richard, Tina Turner,

and Chaka Khan. There are so many blues and

jazz pioneers that have expressed their Native

ancestry through their work."

FOLLOW YOUR HEARTS DESIRE gets

THREE Native American Music Award

Nominations: Best Blues Recording, Best Female

Artist and Best Songwriter.

Red Rhythm Band
ALBUM:
Gotta Have Your Love”

Red Rhythm was born in the summer

of 2003 when guitarist Dusty Miller

and drummer Terry tee so teh geh’,

decided to take their music to another level.

They began to craft their music with a new

style of progressive fusion rock and blues that

would soon succeed in expressing the true

nature of their music.

They added newcomer Dustin Miller

(Dusty's own son) on guitar, bass, and vocals,

as well as percussionist Bobby Heddleston,

and vocalist Lacy Saunders.

Dusty and Dustin are members of the Comanche

tribe and consider it to be a rare privilege

to be one of the few father-and-son teams in

the entertainment business.

Terry, a full-blood Kiowa, is a World Champion

traditional Southern Straight Dancer and an

accomplished native flute player with a CD

entitled Prairie Rain.

See the show notes for a link to his CD.

(SEE: http://store.wanderingbull.com/prrafl.html)

Bobby Heddleston, a Cherokee, was born and

raised in the heart of Kiowa-Comanche territory,

and is a lifelong friend and brother to Dusty.

A former drummer, Bobby has made a smooth

transition to percussion.

Lacy Saunders, brings a voice and talent

expressing nothing less than pure experience.

She is a key element to the unique harmonies

and lead vocals of the group.

IPM Video Spotlight

MEDICINE DREAM Mawio'mi Canyon Records

Finding a transition into pop rock, Medicine Dream indulge their audience by taking their native roots and combining them with radio-friendly muscle. Led by the soothing Bon Jovi-like vocals of Paul Pike (Mi'kmaq Nation) the Alaskan five piece build upon the strength of contemporary song structure using elements of Native flute, rhythmic drumming and chants. The result is not only stunning but addictive. P'Jilasi, If We Were Wolves, Lightning Flashes The Sky and The Homecoming are excellent example of intertwining thick vocal chants behind a strong melody. The cross-pollination of cultural boundaries within the group (each member is from a different native tribe) brings a rich texture to each of the CD's original twelve numbers.

Joining Pike (who handles vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass and flute) are Buz Daney (drums), John Fields (keyboards), CeaAnderson Nicklie (background vocals),George Newton (guitars) and Patrick Lind (bass). Guesting on Invitation To Breathe for a duet with Pike is Angela Brown. Mawio'mi succeeds in its venture largely due to powerful songwriting and a flare for a unique voice in a currently undefined mainstream market. A brilliant and captivating homage to the past, present and future.

1st Katrina, now Rita?!?!?

Introduction to situation with

Houma

:

"United Houma Nation Chief Brenda Robidaux

told the national "RadioLeft" on Wednesday, Sept. 21,

that tribal members can not get throughto either FEMA

or the Red Cross and are not receiving any federal aid."

"Robidaux said a grassroots effort of volunteers have set

up tents in her yard to help tribal members, but no national

or federal aid is coming in."

"One

Houma

village was blown away by Hurricane Katrina and another is
underwater south of

New Orleans

. Thousands of

Houma

are homeless. They
are still searching for tribal members in shelters, some of the elders
may not speak English.
The mainstream media continues to ignore the tribes and their losses on the

Louisiana

coast."

"The

houma

villages were located near Terrebonne and Lafourche Parishes southwest of

New Orleans

, in the vicinity of Montagne, Golden Meadow, and Dulac-Grand Caillou

ARISE

Mission

statement:

Here is the complete mission statement from our director, Star Nayea:

Recently, a concert that was planned to raise money for the people of the

Houma

tribal nation, as well as other victims of Hurricane Katrina in

Louisiana

, now seems impossible to pull off. This was due to lack of monetary support & interest from Casino's, as well as indigenous organizations.
Star Nayea, a native artist and the organizer of the concert, which was to be called “ARISE” was heart broken over this. But within 24hrs of her realizing its impossibility, she was blessed with an alternate plan.

Singer/song writer Howard Lyons, along with his wife Nancy,

came up with an Idea of a benefit CD, while in keeping, with the same name & spirit of ARISE.

With renewed vigor, Star is reaching out to Native American and aboriginal

artists who may be interested in donating songs for this CD.
We would prefer donated songs that you as the artist fully own including Copyrights & publishing. If you appear on a label, we would ask that your label simply state that you
appear courtesy of themselves for this project.

If you own your songs & it's publishing,
you will still retain all your rights by way of
artist contract with ARISE LLC, & its founders.
now, you won't make any publishing money from this venture,
just a really great feeling that you are helping others!

The art work, mastering, and pressing for ARISE ,
will all be done by the Design team of  “Foxwoods Creative Arts” , a production
house owned and operated by The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation.

They are donating all of thier production design services to this project.

In addition to song donations, Star is looking into partnering with a

label with world wide distribution. A well respected label, that will enable us to increase the visibility of this project, and help make our efforts of bringing relief to those in need

a reality.

We are just asking for your generous donation of ONE song.
It's so much more than a song; it's a sacred message & gift.
From the First citizens of this Nation to our battered & bewildered
brothers & sisters of every race!

By lending our Native voices & visions to those who have been swept away,
devastated, by the total destruction of their everyday day lives, that
we all are so blessed to have.

CALL TO ACTION:

If you are a northern or southern native American Indian artist, or a Canadian aboriginal artist, and would like to submit your work, please contact me, Michael Kickingbear, by e-mail at:  nativemusic@gmail.com,  that e-mail once again,  nativemusic@gmail.com

Star, Howard & Nancy Lyons, and I wish you all the best & we Pray for your donation to our efforts.
Thank You, Love & Prayers…
