PURA FE’
ALBUM: “Follow Your Heart’s Desire”
Pura Fe's voice soars the heavens, elegantly
stating her Indigenous influence on the birth
of the Blues. This beautiful album is complete
with songs of love, history and anthems for her
Tuscarora Indian Nation of North Carolina.
Pura Fe´states that her music helps illustrate
the musical contributions made by Southeastern
Indigenous people in general. (Quoting)
"My Nation has been systematically disenfranchised
and disregarded. Many people think we have nothing
to do with the development of Southern culture.
Not only were we captured and shipped off as slaves
to West Africa and the Caribbean
together on slave plantations during colonization of
our land. African and Indian slaves were harbored,
escorted and smuggled across the Canadian border
through Indian country.
Many of these grandchildren became influential
musicians. Charley Patton the first King of the
Blues is Choctaw, Scrapper Blackwell is Cherokee.
Other artists of native decent are: Jimi Hendrix,
Don Cherry, Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk,
Lina Horne, Little Richard, Tina Turner,
and Chaka Khan. There are so many blues and
jazz pioneers that have expressed their Native
ancestry through their work."
